Find Zantac Ulcer in Q&A
For an ulcer, when taking Zantac (Ranitidine), are you supposed to take it before a meal, with a meal, after? a meal, before going to bed? When? Don't say ask doctor, as this pre ion is from another time, another place. I just can't remember the when of when I am supposed to take it-anyone else taking it or have taken it and know?

Juliet replied: "I'm a pharmacy technician/pharmacy student, and I see it prescribed most of the time as taking it in the morning or about an hour before your largest meal. That way, it's got time to get into your blood stream before you eat something that may cause gastroesophogeal discomfort."

ontheroadagainwithoutyou replied: "A friend of mine takes it about half an hour before he eats his main meal of the day."

If your stomach burns and hurts often and is relieved when you take zantac, is it probably an ulcer? It's not heartburn

Ukiah replied: "Its not necessarily an ulcer. Some people just produce too much acid. Thats me. I went through blood tests, even a camera in the stomach to check for ulcers. Its just overproduction of acid. Try over the counter Prilosec."

SPARKFISH replied: "Pain under your ribs and in sever cases, chest spasms so bad you think it is a heart attack CAn be the result of excess acid production . Over time, this will cause ulceration. Most often the symptoms will be relived temporarily, by eating a plain buscuit or some thing similar. Most often the pain starts about an hour or so after eating or when you lie down at night. Stress , spicy food and excess alcohol causes the problem in many cases ....... so avoid! eat small amount often If it is really out of control have a couple of days on rice pudding , jacket potatoes and Baked Beans ONLY Zantac contains a acid inhibitor which prevents excess acid being produced Alkaline remedies such as the Bicarbonate /Bismuth mixtures ( rennies , Andrews etc) only kill what is present. Zantac and similar " long lasting" cures contain RANITADINE and it is MUCH cheaper to by "own brand " products which contain this - in the UK from Wilko, Tesco etc . If the symptoms last more than a week GO TO YOUR DOCTOR as it can be a bacterior which is easily killed with a cocktail of antibiotics over 14 days It is not likely to be and ulcer BUT left untreated for a long period ( months) it will become one and you will start vomiting blood"

Cindy F replied: "You probably have GERD. Its a reflux."

Pangolin replied: "Not necessarily. It could be gastritis, which is very common. If Zantac alleviates the pain, you're probably fine to treat yourself with that. If the pain persists, or gets worse, then you should see a gastroenterologist for an EGD (endoscopy) to diagnose what is wrong. They'll test for the bacteria that cause ulcers, and treat you if you have it. They might also suggest a different medicine if it is just gastritis and the Zantac isn't doing the job."

SAMI replied: "Zantac is a histamine H2-receptor antagonist that inhibits stomach acid. Ulcer may or may not be the cause."

will taking zantac help cure an ulcer? and how long will it take to cure one? Angeline A. I HAVE AN ULCDER YOU DUMB A.. I'M NOT FAT

adorkable replied: "I took Zantac OTC and it cured it within a month."

does taking daily medicines for ulcer like ranitidine zantac and nexium not harmful for health? i always take this because i feel something boiling in my stomach if i can't take it daily, infact i take it twice a day

Alfonso M replied: "I have bleeding Ulcers plus intestinal lesions and the doctors have had me on Prilosec for almost three years. It has no known serious interactions with other meds and I'll be on it for life. No problems from it yet."

banzai_4 replied: "any side effects of those drugs are a lot better than the complications of a ruptured ulcer, which if left untreated can be fatal. Take your medicines."

seora replied: "Did your doctor recommended it? My father is in raditidine for almost 40 years (he started at 33 on medical Dx), so I do too (since 12 years ago) and we dont have any secondary problems. Well, we dont take it for every day on all those years, its about some 2 or 3 months, twice a day, and then maybe 6 - 8 months nothing, and then again. Only as doctor recommends. Go to doctors office and he will tell. Ask everything and youll be more confident. Take care...."

Will going without my thyroid medication or not taking my ulcer medication cause constant nausea? i take the generic verson of synthroid and zantac ( not ever at the same time) but i ran out of synthroid a month ago and forgot to take my ulcer medication... would it cause constant nausea?

cynthia h replied: "since your thyroid controls your metabolism, you may find that without it you are tired, achy, constipated, and have acid reflux...since the food you eat may be digesting slower. obviously you have a thyroid (I do not) or you would be feeling pretty ill at this point. in the next 2 weeks it may be worse. I have no idea about the ulcer stuff...but if you need them, you should be taking them. and it will take weeks to have the thyroid meds build back up in your system...my endo waits 6 weeks between dose changes to see any difference."

can you take zantac if you have stomach ulcers? i ran out of prevacid but my father has zantac is it safe to take that anti acid medicine with ulcers?

china_cat84 replied: "Yeah, it is. My husband was told to take it by his doctor to help his stomach ulcers heal. It lessens the amount of acid in the stomach. However, I would call your doctor's office and speak with a nurse just to be sure. I don't know anything about you or your medical history so I can't be sure."

Az R replied: "Zantac is used for treatment of ulcers. However, it's a bit of a messy drug, you shouldn't take it without consulting your doctor, especially if you're taking any other medication. Also, if you have recurrent, chronic ulcers, you probably have a low grade infection in your stomach of a bacteria called H. Pylori. A large proportion of chronic ulcers are due to this bacteria. It can be treated with a week of antibiotics, usually combined with a drug like Prevacid, or rarely, Zantac and its cousins."

BTK replied: "well, you could try to. just ask your dad. prevacid is an antacid i believe. so zantac might also be an antacid. but, if they're both pre ion medications, i wouldn't be so quick to try that. like i said ask your dad. im only 14 so idk."

steveo replied: "ask your doctor if you aren't sure on anything ivolving medication."

shammyishdasexx replied: "yes."

Zantac and STOMACH ULCERS..? Hi Im 16 years old and I think I have a stomach ulcer. it's been going on for about 2 months now. I think I have it because I read the symptoms online, and i have every one of it. My question is if I take Zantac (already did) will it help?

FlowersYes replied: "Antacids will reduce it's effect. You need to avoid carbonated drinks, liquor, acidic foods (vinegar, tomatoes in any form, spicy foods), chocolate and really limit raw veggies to see if you really have ulcer."

why would a doctor give you zantac for a skin complaint? isn't zantac for stomach ulcers

arlanymor replied: "Zantac is used to reduce stomach acid and can be bought over the counter in any chemists because it,s not much good"

I have been taking 30mg lansoprazole in morning and 300 mg Zantac at night for 6 months? The Doctor prescibed due to small ulcers and gastritus seen in endoscopy. Both my father and two grandfathers suffered from same.Is it safe to take long term,as soon as i have a break from them, the pain returns, have been taking lansoprazole on and off for ten years.

Denise H replied: "If you are at all concerned then you need to go back and see your Doctor. Or youcould ask your local pharamcist if these drugs are safe to take long ter,. My father has been taking Lanzoprazole for many years and like you without it, the pain returns."

DED replied: "Like Denise said.. you should bring this up to your doctor.. but, I can tell you that Im going through the same thing, and have been taking these medicines for 5yrs.. the only thing that changes for me is I get immuned to them and then the doc has to up the dosage.. so, I dont think he'd up the dosage and let me be taking them for so long if it were dangerous... GOOD LUCK!!!!"

Peter O replied: "i have been taking lansoprazole.for years with no side effects and i have regular check ups with my doctor."
