What are the chemical procedures for the production of fexofenadine (allegra) and where can i find more info? I need to know the method of making/producing fexofenadine through chemical means not biological. Is there patent info on this product?

yellowstonedogs replied: "These may be of help into your enquiry: (From the FDA)='Fexofenadine%20hydrochloride' From what I can understand Albany Molecular Research, Inc (AMRI) holds the patents on the manufacturing process for fexofenadine hydrochloride. They were challenged by Barr Pharmaceuticals Ltd however."

What allergy medicine has FEXOFENADINE in it? I went to the parmacy the other day looking for an Alegra D over the counter subsitue. Since Alegra D costs 100 bucks for 30 pills. She told me to get some alergy medicine with Fexofenadine in it which is the active ingrediant in Allegra D.

petticrew105 replied: "Allegra or Allegra-D also Telfast, Truludan, and seldane. Allegra is most popular. They require pre ions however. Zyrtec-D will give you great results if you're looking for something over the counter."

What Antihistamine would be comparable to Fexofenadine (Allegra)? My husband takes it daily, but with our new insurance it cost way too much per month. Is there a OTC alternative? Or a different kind that may be a lower tier drug? Need something as close to Fexofenadine as possible...

cwgrrl7 replied: "I actually get much more relief from OTC Zyrtec than I did from Allegra and I buy the generic, which saves me about $50 a month in medication costs. There are several OTC alternatives that will suffice, but comparisons are hard to make as the medications often work differently. Zyrtec actually blocks the irritant that causes the allergies and has a decongestant (Zyrtec D) formula that can be taken every 12 hours when congestion and secretions get in the way. Speak to the pharmacist at your local drug store and get his/her opinion on pharmacology and similarities between available drugs and comparisons. I hope you find what works at a significant cost savings, God bless!"

Can antihistamines effect your chances of falling pregnant, or your developing baby? (expecially Fexofenadine) I'm in my first cycle trying to concieve, and I take 180mg of Fexofenadine, daily. Does anyone know if this is effecting my cervical mucus, or if it will effect my baby if I fall pregnant? I'm in Australia, can anyone recommend a safe antihistamine if it isn't a good one to take?

dgtatu02 replied: "I do not like taking drugs like antihistamines. I use a product called a Nasa-Flo Neti Pot. Go to your local drug store and look for it in the cold section. It looks like a little tee pot. You fill it with warm water and a salt solution pack that comes with it. Then you tilt your head forward and to the side. Put the nozzle in one nostril and pour. The liquid comes out the other side. Blow your nose and repeat from the other side. This will clean out your sinus cavity and keep you breathing well for a full day. No chemicals, no problems. This was on Oprah, and everyone I have gotten to use it loves it. I use it every morning."

waddell26 replied: "probly not before but you may want to ask a doctor during pregnancy"

Chels replied: "Yes, antihistamines dry up mucus. I don't know if there is a 'good' one to take."

honeypot replied: "antihistamines can dry up cervical mucus but I dont think they would affect your fertility. I am undergoing IVF and had to take a hormonal nasal spray, the directions said you could take a decongestant but to wait 30 minutes after taking the nasal spray. So if fertility drugs allow you to take a decongestant I dont think it would affect your fertility. It would be best to check the product disclosure statement that came in the box or check there web site for more information"

Bronwyn replied: "As some antihistamines *can* be a problem during pregnancy, I strongly advise you to double check this question with your GP. Don't rely on internet advice or simply what's written on the box of antihistamines (though that's a good place to check!). Your GP (or maybe your pharmacist, if you're lucky) will be able to provide you with more up to date and complete answers than we will. You might also like to call the "Medicines Line" on 1300 888 763 for independent information about medicines. (Phone Mon to Fri, 9am to 6pm, Australian Eastern Standard Time.) I've given you a couple of links (see below) that might give you a starting point for discussing the safety of fexofenadine and possible alternative antihistamines with your doctor. From my quick Google research, I'd say its a possible risk for pregnancy and breastfeeding, and well worth researching alternative medications you could take instead of Fexofenadine. :)Bronwyn"

what is fexofenadine hydrochloride used for? i just need to know for my chemistry project, and there isn't much on the internet.

tardis_mom replied: "It's the generic name for the pre ion medicine Allegra."

Len J replied: "It is Allegra which is for allergy relief such as runny nose from pollen etc."

I've developed an itchy face ears mouth n throat, can i take fexofenadine and loratadine together? I've been suffering for a while, but recently getting worse, and struggling to identify any triggers. i'm having to change antihistamines as they stop having an effect after a while, my doctor recently changed me from chlorfenamine to fexofenadine but my fexofenadine aren't working and my throats really bad, can i take can i take loratadine today even though i've taken fexofenadine today?

brisk131 replied: "Yes. It is common for bodies to eventually grow "immune" to antihistamines as they are taken for a longer period of time, so it is sometimes even prescribed to take two together. However, if you have just started the fexofenadine and it doesn't work, let your doctor know, as it may not be good enough. Ask him/her if they think it would be beneficial in your case to continue to take both together, or if he thinks a stronger one may be better."
