Has anyone gotten relief from chronic pain by taking HYDROXYZINE PAM? I have been diagnosed with many different things the last on being PNE pudendal nerve entrapment. Have had chronic pain since 2001. Any comment would help me.

casah replied: "Hi there~~~1st off...Chronic pain truly makes ones outlook on life different from those not affected by it.. I'm well versed in it and am saddened for those also trapped in its vicious cycle~~~As for the Hydroxyzine (aka as Vistaril, etc.) Yes, it has worked for me , but only as an adjunct to my existing pain medicines...It has an anti-anxiety function to it as well as being great at controlling vomiting(also an anti-histamine). So, in combination, yes, it's worked, alone...hrrmm..I can't say much. But, that's just me, my body..everyone is different and the way drugs affect one person often won't be the same for anothers experiences with it...If you've been prescribed the Drug, like I said, it has the effect of lessening anxiety, and with any pain, comes with it to be certain is anxiety..and therefore adds to the stresses of the pain, this might help break or at least lessen the cycle of your pain...Wish I could say the magic words...(--_o) Hugs~Hope~Health...My BEST to YOU"

Gary Y replied: "Its an antihistamine, and anxiolytic. An anxiolytic is a drug prescribed for the treatment of symptoms of anxiety. It won't show in a normal drug test - some drug tests also test for the presence of other chemicals which are considered possible masking agents or large quantities of unusual substances, but generally by itself hydroxyzine should not cause a positive drug test."

Can you dissolve hydroxyzine pam? I am having trouble swallowing my pills can you dissolve it? Its a sleeping capsule...like can i break it open?

Brady replied: "I just opened one of mine about three hours ago. I emptied the powder onto my tongue, and let it dissolve. I let them sit in my mouth and absorb sublingually for about five minutes. It has no flavor, and doesn't leave an aftertaste. This method increases the effectiveness, as it allows much of the drug to pass directly into the bloodstream without having to go through the gastrointestinal system. This means you don't have to wait so long before it works."

What does hydroxyzine pam do is it for anxiety like zanax? they also gave me seroquel 400 mg and paroxetine? will any of this stuff help with my annxiety like the alprazolam

holly z replied: "Hydroxyzine is for anxiety Seroquel is used for: Treating schizophrenia. It is also used to treat acute manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder (manic-depression). Paroxetine is used for: Treating depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), generalized and social anxiety disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder, and panic disorders with or without the fear of being in open or public places"

Candy C replied: "Hydroxyzine aka vistaril is an antihistamine drug. It's used for anxiety as well because it has sedative effects. From personal experience Hydroxyzine works well for anxiety. I took it at night before I went to bed. Seroquel is used for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. I have a friend that takes this for bipolar and it works wonders! Paroxetine aka Paxil is primarily used to treat the symptoms of depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social phobia/social anxiety disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)."

I have a close friend with Parkinson's disease and they check his liver and bone marrow when he takes zanax and seroquel. Low doses of Xanax will help with anxiety. Do not combine these drugs without doctors advice as they may become toxic in your system.Sleepy Time herbal tea will help low grade anxiety as well as several foods which may help monitor your nervous system. Balancing your system will definitely help your body calm down as it deals with different high stress situations. Paroxetine and hydroxyzine pam? Which of these medications has a better first time use affect. i was prescibed both..and tommorow is my first day at a new school and I want to know which one is known to decrease anxiety even though I am just starting to take them. I have been reading alot and many blogs say that hydroxyine can increase anxiety? do any of you have any experiences with these? the last thing i want is intensified anxiety my first day!!

Joanna A replied: "Paroxetine is an SSRI, and this class of drugs takes ~2 weeks to become effective against anxiety. Go ahead and start it, but don't expect it to have an effect tomorrow. Hydroxyzine (prn?) is an antihistamine with anxiolytic properties (kind of like benedril), and it has rapid effects, which should be short lived. I believe that Hydroxyzine is prescribed prn (as needed), meaning that you should take it in situations when you are feeling especially anxious, but not otherwise. I looked it up in a medical reference and increased anxiety is not one of the side effects, so I wouldn't worry about that at all. I would however caution you that it may have the opposite effect and make you feel drowsy, apathetic, and possibly a little drunk. If you have never taken a rapidly acting anxiolytics (valium, xanex, klonapin, etc.) before, I would not suggest taking this one for the first time before your first day of school. Instead try some relaxation exercises in the morning, then try the hydroxyzine when you get home to see how you react to it. If this is contrary to what your doctor told you to do, follow his advise, not mine, I am speaking mostly from personal experience with these types of drugs."
